I'm delighted to share the new book's cover and table of contents. Thanks to Luna Enriquez for her graphic design skills. The cover photo by Robert Bye is of Ein Gedi, an oasis in Israel. I expect the book to be available in February, and the ebook in March.

Word of the Year
My word for 2020 was "kindness." It has been a great word to carry through a pandemic. For 2021, I'm choosing "respect." What are you choosing for your word of the year?

Curious, Healing is a blog, and you're welcome to comment there or here about the books. The articles don't have a comment section. You're welcome to comment here or send me email with any thoughts.

Croatian New Year's song

Happy New Year to all!

The EEFC (East European Folklife Center) has a listserve that is still active with some of the most knowledgeable and generous Balkan folk music enthusiasts imaginable. I read it on digest, because it goes along quietly with one or two posts a day and then suddenly blows up with 20 posts about the details of a song translation.

Courtesy of the list, here's Ansambl Lado from Croatia singing Dobar večer dobri ljudi in 1999.

Croatian lyrics )

Translation:
Good evening, good people!
May all our people be healthy!
In this new year may they all find joy!
May all our people be healthy!

Good evening, master of the house!
The new year has come to you.
May your field bear the bright wheat.
May all our people be healthy!

May the hills bring you red wine!
We give the girls beautiful red garlands
and the boys beautiful green boxwood.
May all our people be healthy!
