We have ways to hook them together to make the system as a whole okay, even with the component-level unreliability. Backups, notifications, and so forth. How can I be part of a larger system that’s reliable, even if components of myself are unpredictable?

Confused and polite works astonishingly well when you're white and female, to the point where you can weaponize it for others. Stereotypes suck.

Yeah, I'm sure I've benefited from that, and it's also been weaponized against me recently. As a Jewish geek, sometimes I have white lady privilege, and sometimes I don't. (The "Christian" on white lady is silent.)
