Dreamwidth post formatting

This "Disable Auto-Formatting" box at the top of posts is new, right? So frustrating that it's checked by default and turns my posts into one big lump of text.

It's not new, but the FAQ (dated 2013) says auto-formatting is off by default. Auto-formatting is still off when I start a new entry in my own journal, I just checked.

My guess is that you've hit some kind of new bug, and should file a support request.

I don't see that check box at all on the beta version of the Create Entries page.

You can turn it on, or off, here: https://www.dreamwidth.org/beta

I've been using the beta version long enough that I forgot I'd turned it on. So the behavior I described in my first comment is for the beta version.

How odd. I'm not opted into any betas, and the checkbox is disabled for me when I go to create a new post.

I don't know what's switched. Eventually we're all going to be on what is now the beta anyway, so getting used to it is a good idea.

It's a "sticky-ticky", and will (if working correctly) respect the last setting that you used when submitting an entry on the Create entry (rather than Edit) page. So editing to fix it won't fix it the next time you encounter it, but if you remember to un-tick it the next time you post an entry, it should stay un-ticked unless something terrible happens to your cookies. (I think it's a cookies.)
