On the up side

I wrote that polite letter to the Sunday night meditation teacher. He kindly responded that shutting the door would probably keep their incense from permeating the building, and indeed I was able to stay for the whole dance evening last Sunday. Yay for positive outcomes!

Non-negotiable boundaries around my health have their benefits. I canceled a networking meeting because the woman's hairspray is "part of her brand." My gut had been telling me that we wouldn't connect well, but this saved us both the time and trouble of meeting.

On the occasions when I mention my sensitivities and someone says, "Oh, I know how to fix that!" I find myself backing away. Those are my sensitivities, thankyouverymuch! I don't want anyone mucking with them, especially not on very brief acquaintance when they have to be making a truckload of assumptions about me and my body.

I do want to become less sensitive to foods and chemicals. On my own time, in my own rhythm, as I learn how to best care for myself and my strained nervous system. I might even enlist the help of one or more practitioners who approach me with kindness and care.

It feels good to be firmly on my own side about that.
