Dental insurance is kinda neat

Because I have the privilege of a highly-paid programming job, I also have the privilege of receiving a check that covers a goodly portion of my recent dental expenses. It's great and everything, but shouldn't the people who don't have highly-paid jobs get coverage first?
I also had the privilege of going to an expensive dentist who is very good and accommodating of my sensitivities. I hadn't been to the dentist in four years partly because of cost, and partly because my previous dentist had fragrance dispensers built into the walls. I would think about calling, think about the headache I'd end up with, and think about something else. I've been to some bad dentists in my time ("You're not in charge of your mouth; we are!" "Those wisdom teeth need to come out!") so I'm relieved on several counts.
Also, I was congratulated on the excellent job I had done keeping my teeth clean over those four years. Daily diligence pays off. Many professionals of various sorts don't recognize the work I'm already doing, so this was a nice change. It took years to work out a daily routine that worked for me, what with various associations with childhood abuse.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for the doctor!

Date: 2013-07-25 03:00 am (UTC)Thanks for the good wishes. I'm not sure western medicine has anything I want or can use, but I still have the vague sense I should get checked out while I have insurance. Not eager to get fat-shamed, though.
