Untangling/Focusing class
Dec. 14th, 2018 09:30 pmI'm really pleased with how the Untangling/Focusing classes I took with Focusing Resources went. I ended up taking parts 1 and 2, even though the existence of part 2 was sprung on us half-way through part 1. A total of 10 weekly 2 hour classes via Zoom online, with a three week break in there because the teachers were doing an in-person retreat in Argentina.
The teachers, Ann Weiser Cornell and Barbara McGavin, are experienced at managing classes, and deeply familiar with this material they've created/discovered, so I quickly came to trust them in both arenas. That felt great in itself, to know I was in good hands.
It was useful to hear what my classmates were sharing and realize that our Tangles had similarities. It's nice to feel less alone around intractable issues in my life.
I was hoping to find a Focusing trading partner, and I currently have three! All via Zoom. It's a relief to find out that Focusing can work for me, since I've had a hard time with it in the past. Turns out the Companion's responsiveness makes a big difference, and so does explicit permission to be working slowly and carefully with a Tangle.
Is my Tangle better? ... maybe. I'm learning more about it, more able to step back and observe, less likely to get my feet taken out from under me. I guess that's a big improvement. I'm hoping it will eventually be more clearly resolved, but better is good. Any progress is good, since the definition of a Tangle is that no matter what you try, you're still inside it.
I'm thinking about taking the level 3/4 Focusing training starting early next year, along with the Healing Professionals add-on since all this material has been immediately useful with clients.
There's a year-long Untangling class I was also considering, but it turns out I'm not eligible because I haven't completed level 4 yet. Oh well, maybe the following year, if taking classes still feels supportive and useful. They said they'll make the book/manual for it available separately, so I'll be able to see what they're teaching.
