Heat pump update
Oct. 26th, 2021 03:06 pmThanks everyone for your informative comments on heat pumps! I'm surprised that so many of you have experience with them, and it sounds like they've overall been positive.
Based on your feedback, I asked a bunch of additional questions, visited the installer's office to hear one in operation, and decided to go ahead. It will be installed on December 20, and they said they weren't having trouble getting hold of a unit, so that's good to know. It will have some time to off-gas there so hopefully it won't give me too many headaches.
Having made the decision, now I'm excited about it! It's predicted to be a colder-than-average winter, so I think I will really appreciate it.
Today I rearranged furniture to make space for it, with some help from contractor who is also repairing my back steps.
He also got my undersink water filter unscrewed so I could replace the filter. It wasn't budging for me, even with the plastic filter wrench I ordered. The New Wave Enviro filters are notoriously hard to open the first time, and I was worried about pulling out the water lines, so I asked for help.
He said the wrench helped, and so did his trick of reducing water pressure by using the filter's little shut off valve and then turning it on to empty out the filter. Posting that here so I remember the trick next time!
