Can haz heat pump!
Dec. 21st, 2021 03:07 pmThe heat pump for my bedroom was installed today. On the one dry day in the middle of a long rainy spell, and just before a cold snap when the highs are predicted to be below freezing, which is unusual for us.
So far, the unit runs quietly, and the room is warm, yay!
I took the tiny ConvectAir heater they uninstalled to Rebuilding Center which is a reuse depot for lumber, appliances, etc. Hopefully someone else will find a use for it in a bathroom or other tiny space. My bedroom is not large, but it's right under the roof and has two windows. I generally didn't bother with it, but I've been using it overnight the last couple of weeks, and on high it barely softened the cold.
Since an electrician had to be here to run power to the outside unit, I asked him to fix the dimmer switch that had stopped working recently in my basement massage office, as a separate task for time & materials. There were two dimmer switches next to each other, so he replaced both with modern versions, and installed a cover plate with all four screws in place. Before, a couple of the screw holes were stripped so it didn't look great. I don't know if clients ever noticed, but I did.
I *could* have done it myself, but messing with electricity is scary, and I would have had to search out and decide on a replacement, and I wasn't sure if it was just the dimmer switch or a wire in the wall or what. I'm relieved. He upcharged me about 50% on parts, but maybe that's the cost of carrying them around in his van? Who knows. Anyway, good to have that taken care of!
And, I've been noticing for a while that there's this creaking noise from one of the vents when the furnace is on high in the mornings. While the last tech was waiting for the invoice to come through to my email so I could write a check, he took the vent cover off (oh, I could have done that!) and found an old key in there! I don't think it's mine, so it's been there a long time. So that ongoing worry is handled too.
Just in time before omicron really takes off. We all wore masks when interacting directly, and they volunteered that they're all vaccinated. I'm glad for them, since they're spending time in people's homes! I remembered to share that I'm vaccinated too. I just assume that's obvious, but it's not.
