The switch to standard time is a big event in my year. It used to be a terrifying descent into darkness, especially when I worked in a windowless cubicle and emerged into a world already dark every day. Now that I have more control over my time working at home, and made sure my desk faces a big window, it feels less dire.

Also I am older and have done a ton of work with my reasons for reflexively fearing the dark, and I feel freer to walk out into it when I choose, although it is still easier and more pleasant to leave the house in daylight.

All that said, I cannot believe it is only 6:45pm as I type.

This morning I slept until 5am new time, which is 6am old time and the latest I have slept in months. A whole uninterrupted night of sleep! \o/ I am still sleepy now at 8pm old time. I have a lot of catching up to do.

Today I dropped my ballot in the ballot box! Yay for voting by mail! It took me four separate sessions of sitting down with my ballot to get it all filled out. Partly because I haven't been keeping track of California politics, and partly because there were 15+ referendums (referenda?) and partly because there were 8+ candidates for Oakland mayor and it's ranked choice voting. And they didn't send me a voter pamphlet and the library branch I visited didn't have them either, so I had to look everyone up online. But I did my civic duty, yay!

I cannot even think about the possible bad outcomes of this election overall. /o\ Like in 2016, I'll cope with that when I have to.

Please, VOTE!!!!
