At least I was wearing lots of layers

soniaI spent the weekend at a lovely dance workshop down in Eugene, learning Greek dances with Joe Graziosi. He taught a bunch of dances that look simple initially, but have a lot of subtlety. The way he puts things into words fits well with the way I learn, so that was fun. Of course I liked the one from the area of Greece closest to Bulgaria the best.
After dancing all weekend and getting a ride home Sunday afternoon, I still biked down to International dancing at Reed in the evening. I left early, not so much muscle-tired as sleepy-tired. Pedestrians warned me that it was icy, but I didn't have trouble until I was claiming the lane to keep a car from passing me on a curve. I recovered from the first slip, but it continued icy and I hit the pavement. I'm glad the car was behind and not beside me!
I got myself and my bike and my bag out of the road and stood there and shook a bit. Three people stopped their cars to ask if I was okay! All my parts moved fine, although my left knee and shoulder hurt. I decided to walk the bike for a bit, and encountered a pedestrian who was very unsure of her footing on the icy streets.
She lives between where I was and home, so I walked her home with both of us holding onto the bike. She said she'd been praying for help. I do believe we get sent to help each other sometimes (although I don't believe that caused the crash).
I walked the rest of the way home, a mile and a half altogether. I had a tiny patch of abrasion on my elbow (through jacket, wool sweater, and cotton shirt!) and a big bruise on my lower knee. I applied band-aid and ice, respectively, and I'm feeling okay today. Enough with acquiring reasons to use band-aids, though!
Speaking of which, my cut finger is healing just fine. Oddly enough, my host in Eugene had a very similar recent injury on his left pinky, also healing well. Wild coincidence, or does it really happen all the time?
