I keep hearing the echo of Trump saying, "The election is rigged!"

I'm torn between "Apocalypse!" (I didn't want to find out what Germany 1933 felt like) and "we'll make it through somehow" (too bad about the Supreme Court, though).

Good to remember that I'm not shocked and grieving alone, that there are many of us reacting similarly. I'm posting to add my voice to that collective support.

Our political system has been gamed. It needs overhauling. We don't want the people currently in power to be the ones to do it, though!

One breath at a time. One foot in front of the other. Giving myself time to move through reaction into action.

Yeah, Germany 1933 is the first comparison my mind springs to as well. I'm glad a lot of people are saying we're going to keep going, step by step, bird by bird.

Yes. Reminding myself that the world hasn't ended, it just feels like it.

This is one of the times where Godwin-invoking posts are probably going to be appropriate instead of hyperbolic.

I'm not invoking Godwin. I'm talking about the enormity of electing an openly fascist abusive white man for president of the United States, and reflecting on the enormity of my family's experience in Germany in 1933 and beyond.

I exist because both sets of grandparents fled Germany in the late 1930s. Some of my relatives didn't leave, and were murdered in concentration camps. As I'm making my decision to stay (for now), I'm very aware of those outcomes.

Perhaps you didn't mean it this way, but your post comes across as coming into my journal and letting me know that my post is "probably appropriate," but might not be. I don't appreciate that.

I'm sorry. My intent was to express an appreciation for the enormity of the situation and say that the comparisons being made are entirely correct. I clearly failed at this. I'm sorry.

Bringing the phrase "Godwin's Law" into the conversation automatically questions the appropriateness of what's being said.
