In my first book proof, the text was too close to the center of the book. I decided to go ahead and fix that, taking a guess on what would look right. I got my second proof today, and the text placement on the page is totally unremarkable. In other words, perfect!

But I didn't notice that InDesign didn't move the images with the text, so they're all off-center. ARGH!! I fixed that, submitted a new file, and will get an electronic proof, which shouldn't take too long. Resubmitting costs another $40, but oh well. Chalk it up to tuition on learning to publish a book.

I am pleased that I'm not beating myself up about needing extra proofs which cost time and money. I am doing something totally new and it's okay to go through the learning curve. Yay!

The shifting-your-live-page in the center of the book is something only total printing geeks knew for 500 years! (They called it "creep"; what does inDesign call it?)

So you totally have permission to de-fuss and anti-fret.

I don't think my book is thick enough to have creep, thank goodness. (have crept?) I didn't know that was a risk! I simply didn't know how much room the glue would take up, so the text was too far into the gutter on every page. I am so pleased I got it right the second time - I was nervously sure I had over-corrected.

I'm keeping the permission, though, thanks!
