Sometimes things do work out for the best
Oct. 27th, 2011 06:45 pmThe incense burning meditation teacher downstairs from the Sunday folk-dance group said, "Maybe that shows it's all in your head," because he didn't burn incense one night and I still left early because of smelling chemicals. I told him that was a very rude thing to say and some dancers do wear perfume. I can't tell in the moment where a chemical is coming from, especially since one of my symptoms is confusion.
I was proud of my reaction in the moment, but also sufficiently knocked off-balance by his attack that I didn't even post about it here.
Meanwhile, the co-leaders of the dance group have been very supportive. One of them talked to the manager of the building, and *he* was very supportive. Much to my surprise, because the whole situation seemed like a setup to me. He said he'd told the meditation group if they wanted to be downstairs from us they'd have to work around us because we'd been there a long time. The dance group has been there for 30+ years, mostly with the same dancers!
Apparently the meditation leader was engaging in a little side-bullying, telling us to turn the music down and burning incense after I told him it bothered me. Anyway, a couple of dance leaders met with the meditation leader and he has suddenly noticed that the sound levels are fine and has agreed not to burn incense. Yay.
I'm agog. Situation resolved in the best possible way! Some combination of my speaking up for myself and asking for help worked this time. I can keep dancing there. *Huge relief*
