Here, have some music

Išu Bjala Nedo ("ishu byala nedo") means "Hey, White (or Fair) Neda" in Bulgarian. There's a folkdance to it choreographed by Belčo Stanev, and my singing group has a transcription of the sheet music. It's in 11/8 (quick quick slow quick quick) and the harmonies are interesting, so we've had a hard time making it sound good. It's surprisingly hard to hold the same note for a long time, especially in the middle part, when the other parts have lots of accidentals.

I'm hoping my singing group can put together Dragana i Slaveja, Dragana and the Nightingale, also Bulgarian, also in 11/8 (I really like how that rhythm sounds), composed by Filip Kutev from a folk song. We used to sing it, but we lost our bass singer a year ago, and haven't had the personnel for it. It's four parts, or more if the first couple of lines are sung by different people. Dragana and the nightingale had a singing contest, and Dragana won. The nightingale says, "Please don't take my wings! I have chicks in the nest to feed!" Dragana says, "Of course I won't! It is enough to have out-sung a nightingale."

And here is one of the more dissonant Georgian songs we've worked on. Chaghma Chaqrilo Venakho. One of our singing group members transcribed it after learning it from Carl Linich, who directs the group in the video.

PS: If anyone wants MuseScore files for these, just ask. I'm happy to send them to you.
