For any folk dancers out there, I wrote up How to dance together at a distance via Zoom. Probably applicable to lots of other group activities.

Sadly, singing doesn't work so well because there are delays in transmission that make it impossible to stay in sync. The very knowledgeable, very geeky folks on the EEFC mailing list (East European Folklife Center) are currently discussing how to make music together at a distance, and I am eagerly watching for proposed solutions.

Hope it's helpful! I'll be interested to hear what your group chooses and how it goes.

I didn't do research, just picked Zoom because I've been using it with a free account and it has worked well enough that I don't mind throwing some $$ at them. Then again I got on Zoom from an online class where I bet they did a ton of research before choosing it.

Glad to hear Zoom is (more) accessible, and thanks for

kestrell's notes. Good to know that if someone has trouble, an accessibility app might be competing for focus.

Trying to find the right platform for socializing under time constraints is a hella challenge.

It's like picking the best word processor while writing a grant under deadline.

Yeah, it was more "This will work!" than "What would work best?" And some of the tips emerged as we were using it. I'll be adding to that webpage as we discover more gotchas and solutions.
