My mental health has been surprisingly good during the pandemic and social isolation. Except when I try to figure out when and how to reopen my massage practice, or when I read about how certain prominent bad actors in government are actively trying to kill us by reopening everything too soon. I find a bit of solid information reassuring, and it's also helpful to narrow my focus to the next week or so, rather than looking too far into the future.

With that caveat in mind, some links.

Information about immunity has been mixed. Here's some solid information about how the immune system interacts with viruses. We do get *some* benefit for weathering an infection, even if we don't get full lasting immunity. I will admit to skimming some of the general immune system info. The COVID-19-specific info is toward the end. What immunity to Covid-19 might actually mean by Brian Resnick and Umair Irfan.

Inside the Dystopian, Post-Lockdown World of Wuhan by Sharon Chen and Matthew Campbell, with Claire Che and Sarah Chen. Wow, the link itself is a much better headline than the title they used. Someone had to make it othering. Just like the lockdown in Wuhan looked extreme until we confronted the virus ourselves, their current measures look "dystopian" until we're trying to figure out a way forward post-surge.

CDC director warns second wave of coronavirus is likely to be even more devastating by Lena H. Sun. More devastating because it will coincide with flu season, which uses a lot of medical resources. My own prediction is that it will be the mildest flu season ever because of hand-washing, mask use, and social distancing measures which will still be in place. His advice to get a flu shot sounds laughable to me. I mean, sure, if I get a chance I definitely will, but are they even going to be available? Is it going to be a good risk to go to a medical facility to get one? Of all the things to focus on!

ETA: The Atlantic title for that last article was The Scariest Pandemic Timeline. Another headline eyeroll.

ETA2: We Still Don’t Know How the Coronavirus Is Killing Us by David Wallace-Wells. I keep waiting for the turn in the story where things start getting better, easier, clearer and there's a way forward. It's not happening yet.
