"Frye’s Golden Goose - The seed for this variety was given to us by a Gales Creek neighbor. It looks like the bush variety Brown Swedish, but it's a pole bean. No colored markings like some other shelling beans, but excellent flavor."

Could I just plant the items in my dill seed jar?

Yes, you can definitely plant them! I don't know if they'll grow or not, depending on how long they've been sitting around, but my gardening advice is: Try it and see. I stir the dirt around a bit to loosen it, mix in some fertilizer, sprinkle seeds, cover with dirt, and water daily for a while. My impression is that dill is sturdy. It tends to reseed itself and grow volunteer plants with no fussing.

I should grab my jar and plant some right now, before I forget again. Sadly I just ran out of the mix-your-own organic fertilizer from the yuppie plant store. I'm running out of space in the raised beds, and here I thought they'd lie fallow this year... It feels good to be out in the garden - it's something I can *do*.

since dill is a food group for me. (Along with garlic and ginger.)

I let a dill plant go to seed in my new england garden and now it's a naturalized weed. I let it grow mostly wild in the garlic bed but last year I was yanking up two foot high dill weeds. I can't put it all in the stock because that much dill makes stock taste like pickles.

Yeah, the difference between weed and wanted plant is situational! I let the oregano patch go to seed a few years ago, and I'm still pulling up the extras.
