Embodying Hope: It's a draft!

I have a complete draft of Embodying Hope! I still need to fuss with the figures (not a minor undertaking) and add figure captions, but all the text is there, including references and footnotes reasonably formatted. It has been sent off electronically for copyediting, and I'm in the process of getting a printed copy to send to someone else for review. (See icon for cover preview.)
If you would like an electronic review copy that you're willing to read in the next couple of weeks and send me comments on, let me know!
Here are some relevant links for self-publishers.
ISBNs: Bowker is the (an?) official purveyor of ISBNs. I'm glad I bought a 10-pack back in 2011 when I published my first book, because it looks like the price has gone up.
Library of Congress Control Numbers: PrePub Book Link. There's a separate area for Author/Self-publishers. Did you know the Library of Congress maintains a whole separate set of numbers for books? And then I have to send them a "complimentary copy" when it's published.
Citation Builder. I didn't format my references quite this way (I'm not writing for academia), but it's useful to know what the options are.
I did follow the APA style advice about how to cite digital object identifiers and URLs and personal communications. I referred mostly to books in my resource sections, since URLs change and disappear so fast, but I do have links in footnotes, and I plan to turn them into live links in the ebook.
I'm self-publishing through Lightning Source print on demand. I chose it because it's associated with Ingram, so it distributes to libraries and bookstores, and it also gives me full control over the cover and content. Which does lead to a lot of muttering when I'm trying to get the final file formats just right. Lightning Source login as distinct from Ingram Spark which is a layer on top of Lightning Source.
And, I'm not using this font for the book (I used Palatino Linotype, in case you're curious), but this is cool: Atkinson Hyperlegible Font, free to download.

Date: 2020-12-12 10:01 pm (UTC)Yeah, I need to see if I can get InDesign to recognize the new font so I can at least try it for the book.

Date: 2020-12-13 11:35 pm (UTC)Hooray! for publishing!
The DOI details are impressive, and I love the fact you can buy an ISBN ten-pack. The perfect gift for the writer in one's life.
I'm using Hyperlegible in my Chromium browser (Brave) and I've stopped seeing the font, which is a very good sign!
