[personal profile] silveradept suggested (part 1): "the thing that most people marinated in Christian culture get wrong about my practices"

What comes to mind is that people marinated in Christian culture tend to think that everyone should be marinated in Christian culture. I used to rant more about how Christmas and Christmas trees are not secular/neutral and as a Jew they are not my traditions and do not spark joy in me. Here's a 2012 post that links to three rants, one of mine and two delicious ones from other people that amazingly are still there:
Just Surrender Already.

A quick musical primer on Hanukkah, from the fabulous a cappella Maccabeats. Their old and new Candlelight videos. The Latke Recipe is also joyous.

Happy Hanukkah to all who celebrate! I've been lighting candles on my own this year, as I usually do, only this year it doesn't feel quite as lonely or empty, maybe because I know more people are alone this year too, or maybe I'm getting more used to it over time.

Anyone else want to opine on the thing that most people marinated in Christian culture get wrong about your practices? I think it's a great question, and at the same time I've gotten cautious about making assumptions about large groups of people being wrong about things.

My folks were dedicated to atheism, so I learned about my traditions when they were mocking them.

Indeed -- the further I get from my childhood the uglier their behavior strikes me.
