Back in 2011, I wrote an article about writing articles. Create: Walk Into Fog. Nine years later, the process has stayed remarkably unchanged. I still worry I'm not going to find a topic, although so far I always have from something I read, or a class I took, or something I'm processing, or something a bunch of clients in a row are processing. It's still a struggle until the shape of the almost-finished article finally emerges. It still takes solid chunks of time every month.
One change since then is that I can settle cross-legged in the big chair in the living room with my laptop, rather than being tied to my desk with a bigger computer, so I don't resort to paper and pen anymore. My health must be better than it was then, because now I consistently send them out on the first of the month, rather than being derailed by sensitivity-induced brain fog sometimes.
It seems like it should have gotten easier with all that practice. Maybe it's like biking up a hill - still an effort, no matter how many times I've done it before. The twists and turns get more familiar, but it takes the time it takes.
Does any of that resonate with your writing process? Are there other aspects you wanted to hear about?
