Via melannen, a request for peaceful nature photographs. This is vinca, photographed recently on a walk, yes flowering in January.



I've been inspired by jesse_the_k's sky photographs to pay more attention to the sky when I get the chance. This was my reward for going on an bike ride on a cold December morning. (Click for large version.)

I had to look it up. Spring, apparently. Yes, the daffodils are coming up, but this plant is definitely confused. And it's supposed to snow next week, just for funsies.

How lovely. Is that the Willamette, or a smaller tributary?

It's a bit of the Columbia Slough, which is a narrow waterway running east-west just south of the Columbia. We were up in North Portland, where Vanport used to be.
