Being LGBT and Black carries issues, identity, and experiences more complex than either identity alone.

From Racialicious, "Neither Black Man Nor Black Woman: Living On The Outside."
Roles have been defined for black women and black men and the socialization of black women vs. black men is intriguing. As I’ve come out as genderqueer I have found it difficult to imagine disassociating myself from black womanhood. [...]

Well…that means I’m a black man! Ohhh great! Not only do I face oppression on so many other levels, but now I’ve got this new added burden of being perceived as a black man, should I choose to transition or present myself as male?

From QueerBlackFeminist, "Heavy On My Mind: Bayard Rustin and Black Queer Lives."
I wonder and want to know what it was like for Rustin to be an out (although very different from how we think about the term now) gay, Black man in partnership with one of the most visible and powerful Black men in the country at the time.
