Remembering Dave Hingsburger by Nicole Dama at NADSP (National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals), July 20, 2021
Also, The Hingsburger Humanitarian Award created at NADSP in Dave's honor, and the first one will be awarded to Joe Jobes, Dave's husband/partner of fifty years.
Dave Hingsburger kept his blog https://davehingsburger.blogspot.com/ from October 9, 2006 to July 3, 2021. For many of those years he wrote daily about his experiences, both positive and negative, of being disabled and fat and gay. He also wrote about his work supporting people with intellectual disabilities, and I'm grateful to have unlearned a lot of prejudices while reading. His updates had become more sporadic the last few months. I will miss him.
I started reading his blog via
onyxlynx's blog https://onyxlynx.blogspot.com/. I miss her, too. She's been gone four years already! I knew her in person before I moved to Portland, and I treasured her blogging voice once I got on dreamwidth. This is an "in memoriam" post in her honor.
