Mondays are green bin/recycling/garbage pickup day, with garbage every other week. I recently capitulated and got a wheeled 35 gallon bin rather than the legacy 20 gallon bin that I only half-filled in two weeks. Partly because the future owners of this house probably want a regular bin, and partly because I knew I would have more garbage as I cleared everything out.

So far I have filled the 35 gallon bin for two pickups, and I have a couple more pickups before I leave that I think will be plenty to get rid of everything I need to trash. A friend told me about filling one of those big curbside dumpsters three times when she was cleaning out her house to move, so I feel okay about filling my bin a few times.

Since Saturday was the last day for my practice, I took down the yard sign and the sign on the gate and the decal on the back door, and they went in the trash. Sad to see them go, but they have done good service for 17 years. (S2 Imaging who made them is still around and does great work, if you need any graphic design.)

A friend agreed to take hanging and plain file folders for her church, which inspired me to go through all my files and free up as many of those as I could. She also got all the other office supplies I've collected and don't need, binders, extra tape, graph paper, etc. I still have part of a pad of tracing paper from my childhood, which I kept because that was *treasure* at the time and I still feel attached. I'm so grateful to see the rest of it go!

Going through files led to filling the 50 gallon recycling bin to capacity. And a pile that needs shredding. Early in the shredding process I didn't notice a large paperclip on some papers and fed it through. RIP shredder. It's fine, I didn't like it anyway (noisy, and smells of chemicals even after 10 years), but I still need to shred that pile. I will be visiting Office Depot later this afternoon and paying them to deal with it.

My beloved bike will also be leaving the house, but only for its final tuneup at River City Bicycles where I bought it (also enthusiastically recommended). I've been fiercely debating with myself about keeping its predecessor, but for now I've decided to hold onto it. It's *mine* and it fits me and I've ridden thousands of miles on it and it would be hard to replace in a hurry if the other bike gets stolen or damaged. Plus it's nice to have one bike hooked up to the trailer so I can just go, rather than fussing with hooking and unhooking when needed.

Two bikes is definitely too many for a one-bedroom apartment, but maybe I can keep at least one of them on the little balcony. Although I'm betting the apartment management gets on my case about it, even if I cover it with a tarp. There is bike storage available, but apparently bikes get stolen from there even when secured with a good lock, and I don't want to have to worry about that.

This week the plan is to pack. I have been thinking about what to pack first and where to put boxes so I'm not tripping over them for a month. I ordered boxes. Today I taped together one large box and put in some winter clothes. Look, I started! I think it might go faster than I expect once I get going, since I have gotten rid of so much stuff. I hope so, since I would like it all to fit in that one-bedroom apartment. At the same time, I decided to keep anything I feel strongly attached to. I'd rather pay for a storage unit than regret something I can't replace.

Yay for getting stuff done!

Also tracing paper as treasure resonates with me. When I was a kid, I'd have the rare coloring/activity book that would have a few sheets of tracing paper in it, so you could trace over the nearby drawings, and I loved it. I think because it made me feel like I could draw.

Oh my goodness what a large task!

I hope this comment finds you certain about how much packing is left :,)

Sending strength

...or better yet, an energetic pod of good-natured helpers.

Re: heavy boxes -- one roommate made larger boxes more amenable to heavy books by using shower curtains and sheets to cut back the volume available for denser reading and viewing.
