Sweeping cherry blossoms

Earlier today the sun came out, and I found myself sweeping up cherry blossoms from the front sidewalk between rainstorms, with the old small worn broom because I already gave away the new wider one. A passing woman said pleasantly, "You've taken on a losing battle today!" I replied pleasantly, "I sure have!"
As I kept sweeping, I thought about it. Battle? I wasn't battling anything, and I wasn't losing. I guess she thought my goal was a clear sidewalk, and she was looking up at the blossoms still falling in the wind. My goal was to be out in the sun (check), not packing (check), and to have fewer cherry blossoms on the sidewalk than when I started (check). A successful venture!
This evening, looking out at the sidewalk after more rain, I think I even succeeded in making it clearer than when I started. I swept up the soggy blossoms that fell overnight, and the drier blossoms that fell during the day have mostly blown away.
