The new job is good! I feel welcome, and I'm starting to get my feet under me after a week. I didn't realize the skills from my previous programming job would feel so immediately useful, or that I had missed that kind of work. Doing backend upgrades isn't glamorous work, but it's necessary, and I have some hard-earned experience.

I keep having the image of a duck coming in for a landing at a quiet welcoming pond and swimming around happily, or (is there a non-racist way to mention this story?) Brer Rabbit hopping away into the briar patch. I quite unexpectedly feel at home in this new job. It might not last, of course, but it's lovely while it's happening.

Packing continues. It feels like it's really slow, but as long as I keep moving forward I think it will all be done in time and well enough, even if I do have to unpack everything in the (temporary) new apartment and then repack some of it.

The estate sale person comes tomorrow morning and takes a bunch of furniture. Yikes, and yay, I'll have more room to pack when that's done.

Even if it doesn't last, I'm glad you've had a good start! That's important.
