The English Word That Hasn’t Changed in Sound or Meaning in 8,000 Years by Sevindj Nurkiyazova via [personal profile] kestrel. The word lox was one of the clues that eventually led linguists to discover who the Proto-Indo-Europeans were, and where they lived.

Loitering is Delightful by Ross Gay. Short, powerful, in defense of the delight of loitering.
And so even though I subtly dozed in the late afternoon sun pouring in under the awning, the two bucks spent protects me, at least temporarily, from the designation of loiterer, though the dozing, if done long enough, or ostentatiously enough, or with enough delight, might transgress me over.

You May Be Early, but You're Not Wrong: A Covid Reading List by Jessica Wildfire, Nov 15, 2022 via [personal profile] packbat on [community profile] heard_community (which I don't remember subscribing to, but it's very low volume with useful links occasionally popping up. And a great name.) Quick summary: "TL;DR: wear a n95 mask, don't eat in restaurants, there is no immunity, this stuff will jack you up."

I have been wearing a mask in public places and not eating in restaurants, and it's nice to be supported with science. It's not like we haven't been hearing this stuff for a while now, but it's nice to have it collected in one place. Also, yikes!
