Minor miracles
Apr. 15th, 2023 09:59 pmI work hard to keep track of my stuff, and it really bothers me to lose things. In the big move to California last year, the only thing I lost was one favorite purple wool sock. I figured I left it behind at the hotel in Ashland and tried to chalk it up to a small sacrifice for a successful move. I had two pairs, so I kept the single sock in case I lost one more. It has bugged me to have lost one every time I wore the second pair.
A couple of months ago I lost track of a favorite green wool sock, didn't find it anywhere, and figured I must have dropped it while changing socks and shoes at dancing. Again, it really bugged me. Last week I happened to look carefully between the side of the washing machine and the wall, and there it was! Yay! I wasn't careless with it out of the house after all. Good thing I have a grabber to help me fish it out of there.
Today, almost full year after I lost the first sock, I was digging around in the drawer of summer socks ... and found the missing purple sock. I don't know how it got there or why I didn't find it on all the other searches or while packing and unpacking everything again over the summer, but I'm ridiculously pleased.
It feels like a good pattern, things found and paired up and restored to their places.
In other good things, I was walking down the block and someone had put a tall lamp out with the trash. I need a tall lamp for the living room and hadn't gotten around to trying to buy one. I walked back home with the lamp, figuring it wouldn't work, but it does! It's pretty much exactly what I wanted.
A couple of weeks ago on a walk, I saw a posted flyer for a journeyman electrician, called him, and yes he could install a new light fixture on my bathroom ceiling. I had already seen one I liked at the local hardware store, so I went and got it with my bike trailer, he came and installed it, and tada the overhead light works. It was a ring fluorescent light with a broken ballast that hasn't worked since I moved in. Now it's a Craftsman style fixture with grid led lights, and gives surprisingly warm light.
Finding what I need and getting lights fixed also feels like a good pattern.
