Glass or metal or stoneware - which is the right pan? by Susan Reid, via
runpunkrun. It makes sense that a baking pan's material affects the results, but I hadn't thought about it. As I commented to Punk, I'm still measuring ingredients by volume, not weight, and substituting liberally, so I don't think I can blame a glass pan for imperfect results, but it's worth keeping in mind.
AramcoWorld magazine, Nov/Dec 2023 issue. "We distribute AramcoWorld in print and online to increase cross-cultural understanding by broadening knowledge of the histories, cultures and geography of the Arab and Muslim worlds and their global connections." I received the link for the article "A Vocal Appeal To Safeguard Albania’s Iso-Polyphony," written by Tristan Rutherford, photographed by Ilir Tsouko, and there are other great articles and spectacular photographs there too.
The Al Capone Theory of Sexual Harassment by Valerie Aurora and Leigh Honeywell. Smuggler and murderer Al Capone was successfully prosecuted for income tax evasion. Similarly, sexual harassers in tech can be caught plagiarizing, falsifying expense reports, and/or taking credit for others' work. "Then we realized what the connection was: all of these behaviors are the actions of someone who feels entitled to other people’s property – regardless of whether it’s someone else’s ideas, work, money, or body."
There's No Such Thing as 'Mild' Covid by Derek Franks. An impassioned rant, backed up by lots of data. "Exactly zero studies conclude that covid is “mild”, benign, nothing more than a cold. Zero."
Remembrance. Of those who couldn't speak of war and of those who told me vital truths. by Juliet E. McKenna, Nov 11, 2014. "So this is why I wear a poppy and pause to mark Remembrance Day, for the sake of ordinary young men who found themselves in extraordinary and often appalling situations, which marked them, one way or another, for the rest of their lives. For the sake of their stories, retold in hopes that young men like my own sons, and everyone else’s children, won’t ever see such history repeated."
