So You Want to Move to Canada by Cassey Lottman. When I was moving north 20 years ago, I seriously considered going all the way to Canada, and looked into what it would take. I decided I wasn't ready for that big of a change, which is good considering I decided to move back south. This is a great rundown on the process, for anyone who's currently interested.

Many years ago, Tom Cargill [...] reduced the complexity of the system. Less code, less to test, less to maintain. His coworkers loved it.
But there was a catch. During his performance review, he learned that management had a metric for productivity: lines of code. Tom had negative productivity. In fact, because he was so successful, his entire group had negative productivity. He returned to Research with his tail between his legs.
