Happy Solstice!
Dec. 21st, 2023 07:15 amI went to a Solstice singalong on Tuesday, and we sang "The Cutty Wren." This is the version that lives in my head, by Annwn. Sadly their lead singer Leigh Ann Hussey has been gone for many years now.
My other favorite song from Annwn is "The Bard's Exhortation to the Salarymanperson." "Come away to the hills, come away where the wine of life distills. To the healing of your heart's ills, come away, come away." I feel a lot less trapped by a programming job working from home looking out at the East Bay hills rather than in a cubicle warren.

Date: 2023-12-22 08:01 pm (UTC)Fun fact! Leigh Ann used to come play music with me and friends at my birthday parties. I miss the hell out of her, her music, her sense of humor, her cooking, and well, everything.
Second fun fact: I dated Album Cover Boy (credited as such on the Come Away to the Hills album). He has since changed his legal name (but not to Album Cover Boy, darnit).

Date: 2023-12-23 01:25 am (UTC)I am sorry for your (long ago, ongoing) loss. Funny how worlds overlap. I make posts that I think are completely obscure and idiosyncratic, and people's connections pop up. I love your fun facts!
I love the "Cutty Wren" song
Date: 2023-12-23 07:59 pm (UTC)yet somehow never knew its name, so thanks for that.
Annwn is now a Celtic Folk Metal band, speaking of the old web.

Date: 2023-12-23 08:14 pm (UTC)That’s a different band. This Annwn was based in the Bay Area, not the UK, and was active 1991-2005.
It’s delightful to receive your comments on my posts! Glad you’re more active here again.
