I just had eye surgery, and it went well! More about that in the article.

It is more important than ever for you to get out and vote in local and federal elections. Protect yourself, the vulnerable people around you, and the institution of democracy. As Vicki James said

“Voting isn’t marriage, it’s public transport. You’re not waiting for “the one” who’s absolutely perfect: you’re getting the bus, and if there isn’t one to your destination, you don’t not travel- you take the one going closest.”

Most excellent metaphor! Sharing on my journal.

Your essay on medical care made me nod and sigh "yes" several times. Yes, I have medical needs related to a traumatic childhood. Yes I need to be compassionate for that younger self.

I'm so glad your surgery experience was "anti-traumatic" -- they acknowledged that being scary wasn't "childish," they did the things, it helped.

Thanks for letting me know the article resonated and invited compassion for that younger self. Thank you, yes, the hospital folks were providing trauma-informed care in the best possible way and I am so grateful.

Glad you liked the Vicky James quote!. I had to unlearn the impulse to require perfection, and I guess we all do. It seems to come with age, this idea of working with what's available and trying to improve from there.
