Judith Love Cohen, Jack Black’s Jewish Mom, Was a History-Making Aerospace Engineer by Lior Zaltzman.

“It was really difficult psychologically and emotionally to be better than all the boys in math and science,” she shared with the LA Times. “[The books] really would have helped encourage my feeling good about myself, that this was the direction I wanted to go. I didn’t see role models. I didn’t get encouragement other than at home.” She wrote over 20 books with amazing women collaborators.

Jong, currently a customer/technical training instructor on Apple's global developer relations/app review team, said that she only became aware of a stark pay disparity by chance.

"One day, I saw a W-2 left on the office printer," Jong said. "It belonged to my male colleague, who has the same job position. I noticed that he was being paid almost $10,000 more than me, even though we performed substantially similar work. This revelation made me feel terrible."

Seems to be a regular thing that families with people in the arts also have people who are doing excellent work in the sciences. (If they aren't also people who have significant accomplishments and/or degrees in the sciences.)

Interesting link! I knew about a link between scientists and musicians. I wonder if anyone has studied a link between scientists and artists for patterns and underlying reasons.

If they have, I don't know it off the top of my head, but it seems likely that those who will succeed in the arts or the sciences likely have the same kinds of advantages and upbringings.

Yeah, that's what I was wondering about. There are probably a common set of underlying skills, too. Kind of like how my two careers of massage therapy and computer programming aren't as opposite as people think.

I'll give that some thought and write about it some time. Briefly, programming also involves talking with people and finding out what they want, and bodywork also involves analytical skills of noticing details and figuring out how to solve problems.
