The Authoritarian Regime Survival Guide by Martin Mycielski, published in social media in January 2017 in a series of improvised, spontaneous tweets, which reached 3 million views within one month. Their common element was their trademark signature, “- With love, your Eastern European friends”, and the accompanying hashtag #LearnFromEurope.

Jasmine Mooney is one of those people who. Well. We'd probably never have been friends IRL and yet this completely horrible thing happened to her and she intuitively used it to advocate for the people for whom an even more horrible thing happened. I have so much respect.

Yes, that's a good way to put it. Her article gets the word out about the horrors that ICE is perpetrating, and at the same time she stays focused on what helped her get through, her inner resources and supportive connections with other people. Whether she's trauma-aware, or if it's intuitive, like you said about advocacy, it's really well done.

Love the first story, which I didn't know about. It's great when people are able to change their mind.

True! My Portland biking buddy moved to Pittsburgh, and he still sends me great links. That one was from him.

It's sobering to see how effectively media continues to be the great friend of cops and happily works to excuse their actions and motivations for their actions. And I think that a lot of people's experiences with police are much like the ICE detention story, with arbitrariness and an unwillingness to either listen or give important information to the people who have been arrested.

I think the survival guide is going to be very useful for this administrative cycle.

It's horrific, and I keep feeling like continuing with ordinary life is a betrayal of the people being harmed and our future selves, but on the other hand, I don't want to let them take away my ordinary life, which I am overall quite fond of.

For some of us, ordinary life is revenge and defiance. For others, we can bend the ears of our electeds more effectively. Others still are best at putting their bodies in the way or ensuring everyone knows how to deal with cops.

And maybe our role is to financially support those who are doing the work.
