I mentioned Exponentile a while back, and said I hoped I would let it rest. Well, I did get back into it, and played obsessively for a while.

I started playing in DuckDuckGo on my phone which doesn't save visited urls, and closing the tab each time so that I would have to type the url back in to continue playing. I've tapered off quite a bit, but still feel drawn to spend time in a low-stakes world with defined rules sometimes.

My high score is 114,184 and I generally don't get even close to that before the game ends. I think I got over 100,000 one or two other times.

I've had two 2048 tiles on the screen before, but today I got a 4096! I had two 512s, a space, and then two more 512s, and I managed to finagle a 512 to drop into the space. The 4096 glows like the 2048s, in light green with a reddish aura.

Is anyone else still playing, or have you moved on to the next fun thing?

This post brought to you by being completely wiped out at 7pm. Maybe all that running around has caught up with me. The concert last night was amazing, and I had a good conversation with a stranger waiting in line for the doors to open in the rain. Inside, I chatted with folks I know from choir or dancing. Feels good to be part of the community that way.

I’m still playing

In fact, I installed it as an app on my iPad, MacBook Air and MyGuy's iPad.

Each installation has its own high score, which has never exceeded 36,540.

Gotta say that dopamine boost when a whole bunch of tiles start cascading is reliably lovely, and the low bar to entry very calming and soothing. I reach for it when I'm overwhelmed by human interaction, or in a lot of pain. (Unfortunately in the latter case, I quit moving because the games is so entrancing, which doesn't actually help the pain much.)

This on-device, pay-once Wordle clone WordHex doesn’t entrain my brain--it actual stretches my logic cells, which need all the exercise! The hard mode is really hard, and I solve the puzzle in 3-4 guesses most of the time.

Never played, but delighted that the concert was excellent! (My brother-in-law played that or something very similar for a while.)

Careful of the fatigue. I've had something or other for the past couple of weeks that has manifested as elevated temperature, malaise, and fatigue, and I've heard it's something that's going around. Stay healthy!

I did play long enough to get a glowing tile, but then I had other things to play, too.

It's still my "I apparently need something mindless to poke at on my phone" game. I'm not very strategic about it (or math-inclined), so my high score is 85000 and a bit (and I don't usually get anywhere near that).

I think i did. Somehow, the glow of the 2k seemed more magical than the 4k. I got to 2k again recently - with what seemed to be a relatively low score. The 2k delights me.
