Other people are selling my books!
Feb. 2nd, 2012 06:33 pmI got my first royalties for Wellspring of Compassion! $10.30 for the first month of sales, since they're delayed by 3 months. I sold more books in person at the beginning, but I think over time sales through Amazon, etc. will be more significant. It was exciting to see that some e-books sold as well, although that small amount of royalties is also delayed.
The books are now available at In Other Words feminist community center and bookstore in Portland. They sold one too!
I finally sent the letter to Powell's to ask them to carry the book in their bookstores. I'll only hear back if they take it, and I don't know how long it takes them to decide. I think it was the uncertainty that kept me from sending it for so long. They do stock the book on their website.
I know this is the foundation of capitalism, but it seems like magic to me that I get paid for transactions that don't include me at all. Of course there were two years of unpaid labor before that...
