Consider Additional Truths

The Visceral Manipulation class I took this weekend included techniques for abdominal organs: liver, stomach, gall bladder, and small and large intestines. However, what caught my eye at their store was a life-size pelvic skeleton model complete with internal organs including the uterus. When you're in my office, you can play with it and get a clearer idea of how your pelvis fits together.

Ten years of articles
I sent out my first newsletter in September 2008, and I have continued sending out monthly articles since then. The subjects arise from issues clients bring in, questions people ask, books I read, and issues in my own life. Each article takes at least a couple of days of work to write. As much as I wrestle with some of them, it is satisfying to reach clarity in the end, and to hear that the articles resonate with the people reading them.

I plan to keep writing as long as new subjects float up. Feel free to email me with questions that might lead to an article. This month's article was sparked by an email about relating to siblings in response to The Right Distance from Family.

Trauma of separating children from parents
In her recent newsletter, early childhood educator Patricia Nan Anderson offers her knowledgeable perspective on the trauma of separating children from parents, as the US is doing at our southern border. She includes a free, practical one-hour video course on Children and Trauma that gives 1 CEU. She talks about the harm trauma does to children, invites you to notice what traumas you have experienced yourself, and  calls on all of us to take action to help. (Working on your own healing counts as taking action.)

"Is Strange" books at the library
In case you're curious about the graphic "novel" (nonfiction) books "Pain Is Really Strange" and "Trauma Is Really Strange" by Steve Haines and Sophie Standing, I requested their purchase at Multnomah County Public Library and they are now available. If you're not local to Portland, you might be able to get them via Inter-Library Loan.

Books at the library
I successfully requested that Multnomah County Public Library order both my books, "Presence After Trauma" and "Wellspring of Compassion." If you're local, you can place a hold that will be filled when they come in. Otherwise, you can request that your library order the books - librarians generally appreciate purchase requests.
